That bony bump on your big toe joint
A bunion (hallux valgus) is a bony lump that forms on the side of the big toe. It develops when the joint shifts out of alignment and the big toe starts leaning towards the second toe, instead of pointing straight ahead.
Bunions usually form slowly over time and can be caused by things like family history, wearing narrow or tight shoes, arthritis, or poor foot mechanics that place too much pressure on the joint.
