Heel Pain (Plantar Fasciitis)

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain that we treat at Elite Podiatry Centre, affecting both sedentary and athletic people. It occurs when the plantar fascia becomes inflamed and thickened, as a result of sudden or continual increased strain and load on the fascia.

Treatment

Those presenting with heel pain will often experience severe pain first thing in the morning causing them to limp, pain when standing after long periods of rest, as well as discomfort after an extended time spent on their feet. Pain is often present under the heel, however can extend into the arch.

Symptoms

Management of plantar fasciitis is tailored to each patient, with treatment often involving the following:

Taping
Icing
Activity Modification
Footwear
Stretching and Strengthening exercises
Orthotics
Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy
Dry Needling
Laser Therapy
Massage

Treatment and recovery time is dependent upon whether pain presentation is in the acute or chronic phase, however at Elite Podiatry we treat heel pain at any stage, regardless of how long a person has been suffering for.
