Laser therapy utilises a combination of 905nm wavelength, high peak power and short pulse duration to address acute inflammation, reduce swelling and provide immediate relief from joint or muscle pain. Wavelengths between 650 nm and 1350 nm are defined as the ‘therapeutic window’ for laser therapy, as this allows the laser to penetrate deeply into the tissues, which in turn can trigger biological mechanisms crucial for the healing process.
Laser therapy stimulates a local vascular functionality which allows muscles to relax, and reduces inflammation, oedema, and painful symptoms. It also promotes cellular metabolism that stimulates tissue repair processes and functional recovery.
A course of laser therapy usually consists of 1-2 sessions per week for 3 weeks, however this can vary as it is dependent upon the severity of a person’s injury
